The exhibition seeks to illustrate how today's artists are navigating through issues presented by ideas of light and space; they deal with these thoughts in a way that is both tactile and elusive. The show both contains objects and their counterparts, fluorescents and shadows, spaces and non-spaces.
Group Show
The Shape of Space - California, in the 1960's experienced one of its most
profound investigations.
This movement is called "Light and Space" and
includes the artists: Larry Bell, Robert Irwin, James Turrell, Douglas
Wheeler and Bruce Nauman. Through works of art, these artists were exploring
the effects of light and landscape, environment and sensation.
This is
investigation had a stunning impact on the art world at the time and left
questions today¹s artists still consider to be relevant.
Arena 1 is very pleased to announce our upcoming show, "The Shape of Space."
This show, curated by Sherin Guirguis and Heather Harmon, seeks to
illustrate how today's artists are navigating through issues presented by
ideas of light and space.
Much of the early works in this movement
contemplate light and space through large objects and installations. Here
in "The Shape of Space" artists deal with these thoughts in a way that is
both tactile and elusive. The show both contains objects and their
counterparts, fluorescents and shadows, spaces and non-spaces.
