Is artistic expression above the law? If an artist transgresses a legal boundary for purely artistic purposes, should he or she be held legally responsible? Breaking and Entering takes on difficult but fascinating work by artist who flaunt the law for their aesthitic aims, but in the process ask questions that get at the heart of the moral and social underpinnings of our democratic society.

Breaking and Entering takes on difficult but fascinating work by artist who flaunt the law for their aesthitic aims, but in the process ask questions that get at the heart of the moral and social underpinnings of our democratic society.
Far from glorifying crime, these artists seek to illuminate the dark corners where our belief in freedom of expression clashes with the necessary control that government must exercise for social order. A symposium will be central to the project, featuring a panel that will include experts in the field as well as artists in the exhibition.
