Hemline is an audiovisual performance that was born at the end of 2004 from the homonymous audio project open source of Paolo Peoch Quartet, and was developed by Orgone and XoOO for the video part and by Kcid and Maikko for the audio part. The sounds that have been used are in part generated synthetically and in part are natural, filtered and manipulated to extract one significant part of the “familiarity" that is usually attributed to them.

The video part is composed of two instruments which melt into one unique visual object. Through the software, are manipulated and made to dance some vectored bi-dimensional shapes. The mixer video receives this signal and transforms it, through feedback procedures into three-dimensional structures, and in the same time generates also architectures and passages in continual transformation which chase one another and melt with the vectored forms, creating an alien world in perennial mutation.

In constant mutation, moved by an irreversible attraction which brings them back to a drift to which they cannot resist, it is the metaphor of the eternal change and of the contemporary eternal stasis, just like for the Red Queen in Alice at the Mirror of Lewis Carrol, a continuous metamorphosis through a visual passage inspired by modified stated of induced conscience

Otolab was born in 2001 in Milan as an affinity group made up of musicians, djs, vjs, videoartists, graphic/web designers and architects drawn together by the need to confer a common focus to their projects. Otolab evolves through laboratory, seminar and workshop activities which rely on mutual exchange and support within projects; it actively supports the free dissemination of knowledge and explores the non-conventional usage of technology. Otolab’s vision is to advance beyond pre-conceived schemes through a minimal approach to audiovisual works, both in live performances and studio productions. Otolab’s sounds and visions are the lights and shadows which escort our fellow travellers on an experiential journey. Otolab’s products are educational instruments for exploring the inner self. Otolab is a self-financed, self-produced, non-profit organization and therefore exists thanks to the voluntary work of its participants.
