A selection of art projects from the biennials of Istanbul, Prague, Venice and the Baltic Triennial in Vilnius took place in the summer or fall of 2005. The wide-ranging list of participants and the divergent curatorial concepts of these biennials clearly show that there is no homogeneous idea or agreement about what contemporary art is. The O.K has selected 38 special projects and arranged the works in new thematic groups. The focus is on a younger generation of artists, interest is concentrated on works that explicitly relate to the space or media works.

There is a boom as never before, and they are springing up like
mushrooms out of the ground. They are a hotbed for the art world, a
laboratory for the arts, a playground for curators. Without a doubt,
the numerous biennials and triennials around the world today are the
most important gauge of contemporary art. Less commercially oriented
than art fairs, they are both a stage for "big names" and a desirable
platform for young, aspiring artists to present themselves in an
international spotlight. Their greatest achievement is that they have
served to draw greater attention to contemporary art beyond an audience
of specialists.
Under the title "Biennale Cuvee" the O.K presents a selection of art
projects from the biennials of Istanbul, Prague, and Venice and the
Baltic Triennial in Vilnius. The wide-ranging list of participants and
the divergent curatorial concepts of these biennials - which all took
place in the summer or fall of 2005 - clearly show that there is no
homogeneous idea or agreement about what contemporary art is.
Despite all these differences, certain trends, themes and tendencies
can be distinguished. Most of all though - and in the end it really is
that simple - the biennials show a multitude of fascinating,
contemporary art positions. The O.K has selected thirty-eight special
projects from the biennials for a cuvee in keeping with the house's
programming and arranged the works in new thematic groups. The focus is
on a younger generation of artists, interest is concentrated on current
aesthetic modes of expression, on works that explicitly relate to the
space or media works.
