Pae White
Kit-O-Parts. The title of the show proposed by Pae White, perfectly suggests the simple idea of this collective exhibition: to put together the works of 22 artists, on the base of free associations, without the constraint of a theme or any general principle. Works by: Francis Baudevin, Lilian Bourgeat, Claude Closky, Delphine Coindet, Laurent Faulon, Swetlana Heger, Jeppe Hein, Pierre Joseph, Claude Le'veque, Ingrid Luche, Matthew McCaslin, Didier Marcel etc.
The CAN, Contemporary Art Center from Neuchatel, in Switzerland, and its
director,
Annemarie Reichen, invites La Salle de Bains (Lyon, France) to
introduce — and
exhibit — its past, present and future activities within the CAN walls.
This is a unique opportunity for the Salle de Bains’ team to turn back
on the short
but rich history of this non-profit art space existing since 1999. Each
show was always
based on the same principle: producing a new piece (or some new pieces)
by an invited
artist, each time. Some of these works produced within this framework
will be exhibited
in Neuchatel (by Claude Closky, Pierre Joseph, Matthew McCaslin, Jeppe
Hein,
Jonathan Monk, Kelley Walker...).
But beyond this retrospective look, sometimes made impossible by the
ephemeral
dimension of the works produced, the choice of the curators has been to
ask some
of the artists previously exhibited in Lyon to realize some new works
that can be
seen as some variations of their previous works (Lilian Bourgeat, Claude
Le'veque,
Loic Rague'ne's...), or to announce some future works to come (Swetlana
Heger, Tony
Regazzoni, Bruno Serralongue...).
<< Kit-O-Parts >>, the title of the show proposed by Pae White (her
contribution to the
show, together with the design of the invitation card), perfectly
suggests the simple idea
of this collective exhibition (collective with every meaning of this
word): to put together
the works of 22 extraordinary artists, on the base of free
associations, without the
constraint of a theme or any general (nationalist or generational)
principle.
