comunicato stampa

Sara Tecchia Roma New York is proud to present the two-person photography exhibition of Dietmar Busse and Roger Ricco.

DIETMAR BUSSE presents his new work of emotionally-charged winter landscapes and discovered moments from the small village in Northern Germany in which he was born. Shot on film without any digital manipulation, his array of empty fields and single trees are frontal and direct. His portraits of animals, dead and alive, portray “universals" and clues.

Busse is an artist/photographer based in New York City. His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Modern Painters, Art + Auction, Visionaire, the London Independent and many other publications. A recipient of various prestigious awards including the American Photo First Prize for Portraiture, in this show Busse reveals landscapes for the first time.

ROGER RICCO constructs what he refers to as Small Events and Night Sets, elegant compositions of light and motion captured within a small tabletop set. Begun as an exercise in creating work from a distinct set of restraints—using only objects found in his room manipulated with only one light— these interiors create baroque scenarios that inhabit a space somewhere between photography and more painterly areas.

In the early 1980s, Ricco established one of the first galleries in New York devoted entirely to American Folk, Self-Taught and Outsider Art. He is a leading authority on artists with Autism and is presently co-owner of Ricco/Maresca gallery, located in New York City’s Chelsea gallery district. Always a practicing artist, Ricco has also received the prestigious Rome Prize (Prix d’Rome) in painting. This is his first exhibit in New York City.

Both artists will speak on the inspiration for their changing practices and about inside versus outside on Thursday, June 22.
