Curator Chiara Parisi
In his project of exhibition for the island of Vassivie're, Huang Yong Ping
acts in opposition to a space destined to expose works of art while
transforming it into a ''temple''. From this operation of a functional
shift, was born the title of the exhibition: Panthe'on.
The term Panthe'on was used among the antique pagans and syncre'tiste to
indicate the place "where all gods mix". The question that Huang Yong Ping
asks "at a time where globalization increasese and where the gods have for a
long time habited the world of the good, what could Pantheon mean once
again?".
The exhibition planned for the Centre international d'art et du paysage
wants to capture the focus of the question that stands like premise.
Leading figure of the Chinese vanguard of 80s, Huang Yong Ping refuses the
dominant power and proposes some alternatives to the "official" art of his
country.
Established in France since 1989, the artist occupies an important place
among the artists who work on the cultural shocks and their possible
dialogues. The originality of his analysis and the vivacity of his
provocation constantly tackle, mingling dadaistic tradition and traditional
Chinese philosophy.
The works of Huang Yong Ping transform the spaces of the Center or art in a
huge Buddhist temple and notably the beacon that shelters a monumental mill
to prayer. Panthe'on is the artist's answer to the very meaning of the Center
and its architecture like cathedral within an industrial and at the same
time idyllic landscape. Through this intervention, the island of Vassivie're
appears to us like a place of meditation and exile.
The Panthe'on exhibition is supported by Naturalia

Ping Pang Pong
The artist speaks, the institution invites the public to dialogue
Usually presented on Sunday's afternoon, the Ping Pang Pong program proposes
a series of meetings with art's key figures: the artists.
For two hours, international artists answer to the questions of the public,
explaining their work through the presentation of images, sounds, videos or
performances. A meeting is organized each month by the Centre international
d'art et du paysage de l'ile de Vassivie're.
After Mircea Cantor, Marie Denis, Olivier Bardin, Franck Scurti, Santiago
Reyes, Didier Courbot, Davide Bertocchi, Barthe'le'my Toguo, Shahryar Nashat,
Fabien Verschaere, Yann Se'randour, Eric Madeleine and Samon Takahashi:
Christelle Familiari
Christelle Familiari made a name for herself as early as 1995 through videos
and performances defying the social restraints surrounding questions of
desire, sex and ennui. She then reoriented her work toward prolonging an art
of attitude, incarnated nevertheless into increasingly varied forms. Ennui
contends with the mechanical repetition of the same gesture, solitude with
action, and the practice of crochet, a surprising handiwork, gives birth to
original objects, actions and the Art of performance.

Vincent Lamouroux
The works of Vincent Lamouroux concern at the same time sculpture and
architecture. He try to transform spaces in which it intervenes, from a
visual point and on the level of our physical feelings. They are often works
designed and carried out specifically for the site. And they are` in situ'
insofar as they marry or methodically test all dimensions, spaces and
surfaces (ground, walls, ceilings, etc).

Garden Rendez-vous
The variety of gardens is such to satisfy every public and delight even the
initiated. Landscaped gardens, antique gardens, botanical gardens, medieval
or contemporary gardens, allotments, rose gardens or vegetable gardens
provide for all tastes and sensibilities. This nationwide event provides an
occasion for everyone to look into the protection, maintenance and
development of gardens as well as their creation. These exceptional openings
are always greatly appreciated and attract the curious as well as fervent
enthusiasts.
The Centre international d'art et du paysage de l'ile de Vassivie're will
propose to our visitors different activities imagined by artists within the
framework of this nationwide event.

Walks
Walks, where artists and other creators are invited to draw up particular
paths for the visitors, allow one to discover the most hidden aspects of the
Island and the area, between fiction and reality. They are scheduled in
rapport with the Centre's program of events, and keep in mind the role of
Vassivie're Island as a place for walks. The public can touch, listen to and
move through the landscape as interpreted by an artist.
Rivages by Laura Erber
Pour e'couter aux bords du lac (To listen to on the lakefront)
Rivages was realized as a sound journey open to fiction and to imagination,
to accounts and to memories. The stroll I propose is mental and attempts to
question the limits of this place and the limits of narration, places that
form and deform through and across the voices and ocean waves, which carry
away and erase the stories. Rivages was conceived as a sound piece composed
of fragments of interviews made with the inhabitants of the Limousin region.
The sound of waves from a November morning on the beach of Ipanema in Rio de
Janeiro (Brazil) brings in and rubs out the voices, the words. The resulting
space is neither purely real nor purely imaginary, but navigates between the
two poles as between two uncertain shores. (Laura Erber)
The walk is organized in relation with the exhibition Contour Ouvert by
Laura Erber, presented at the Centre international d'art et du paysage May
15 to July 10 2005.
The park of sculptures is free and open all year round. It has been developed
over the years since the very first artistic project took place on the
island. French and international artists are invited regularly to produce
and place a work in the park: Andy Goldsworthy, Olivier Mosset, Ilya and
Emilia Kabakov, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Adel Abdessemed...
