Perugi artecontemporanea brings the season to a close with the solo show by Antonio De Pascale.
Snacks and TV news, mutant painting and visual information: Real Time is the latest stop on De Pascale’s Grand Tour of the mediascape, a voyage he has been on for the last few years, travelling between linguistic catastrophes and visual calories, in the everyday paradox of a reality which erupts into the surreal-ness of the widespread spectacle.
The artist extracts stereotypes and iconography from mass-consumption products, contaminating them with images captured from TV news, photo-journalism and the internet and inducing a critical level of perception in them which reveals the implosion, the point break, between the pervasiveness of the media and the weight of reality.
The show presents a new series of painting works which reproduce the residual packaging of commonly used products, contaminated by the daily bedlam of media information which becomes a maelstrom, a black hole into which everything falls, in a journey which is no longer towards the unknown but rather towards an identical repetition of itself, where everything seems as familiar as it is disturbing and absurd.
The critical text for the show is by Marco Senaldi.

In the project room, Perugi gallery presents the first European solo show by Michael Dumontier.
The Canadian artist, from the remarkable city of Winnipeg- a celebrated well-spring of international talent- is a co-founder of the legendary Royal Art Lodge (the others being Marcel Dzama and Neil Farber). In this solo show he reveals his intimate, pure and essential minimalist spirit.
As if by magic we find ourselves in a world of tiny, tiny things… banal(-ising) objects and miniscule traces which come from the disheartened, sparkling and scruffy everyday world, to give us, in turns, anxiety, happiness/unhappiness, desperation, boredom... or whatever we like. It’s as if, through an enchantment, the work of the Royal Art Lodge had been drained of all the redundant, anarchic, cynical and colourful aspects as to reveal only its intrinsic magical interior structure.
It’s as if we examined with great attention only the details through a magnifying lens, disregarding the whole, in a spasmodic and constant chase after all the colours of nothing. It’s as if the language of pop and of comics had left behind its explosive haughtiness to pour itself out in the desperate, repetitive and undecipherable banality of things, like Mamet in his early period as it were. Everything in a continuous and perverse wondering about the curious and mysterious nature of things. Dumontier presents a series of collages on paper, created for the show, with an absolute and unquestionable central character- the match.
