Arrows of Desire
Figureworks is pleased to introduce Howard Eisman’s latest series of
enamels entitled Arrows of Desire.
Eisman has been enameling for many years and continues to push the
traditional process in new directions. His unique approach is admired
for content, color, and scale.
This body of work uses hammered copper, which forms deep pockets that
pool with intensified color. The translucency is exquisite and
accentuated by this copper underlay. This series also uses silver and
gold wire that has been imbedded into the fused glass for definition
of form.
Eisman, a Brooklyn native, designed and built his own oversize kiln
in his studio to accommodate large panels measuring up to 24" x 36".
This is quite rare by enameling standards and even more unique by his
use of copper. He frequently will combine these large panels into
diptychs and triptychs for striking results.
This new work places playful figures in fanciful grounds. Jazz bands,
streetwalkers, daydreamers, and garden nymphs are all surrounded in
rich, lush color. Eisman says of this series, "My goal is to create
enamel art which conveys the idea that life can be a colorful,
exuberant adventure".
