The Hero
Harvest Gallery is pleased to present “The Hero" a sculptural installation by
artist Sahak Pogosyan. The Eonian Hero is not the human being but the idea or
substance created by humans manifested differently in different circumstances and
intervals.
Oversimplified, Sahak makes two kinds of sculpture, his provocative multi-tiered
environmental set pieces as well as his more singularly pointed object based
sculpture.
Working in two inter linked but specifically separate venues could, at times,
cloud our collective understanding of what the crux, the essence of his work is.
In seeking a simple answer, we find one paradox playfully stacked upon another.
The artist challenging himself constantly, the evolving, morphing nature of his
personal creative process is consistently self-evident but predictably falls prey
to the larger, more encompassing umbrella of sculptural paradox. The artist
participation is totally secondary. What remains is the often understated “role"
of his work and how his privatized visual lexicon facilitates the purpose, the
function, the role of each work shared with its respective audience.
Sahak has the ability to privately, sometimes forcibly share with us both the
physical and lyrical components of his work. Art that embodies his gift of
purpose, inviting, at times luring its audience into a space where the
audience-sculpture relationship can be readily demystified.
Mard-Dram is both theater and sculpture, an equal amount of questions and answers,
liabilities and revelations culminating in an asymmetrical epiphany that is its
entirety generously shared with its audience.
Opening reception is June 21, 7-10 pm.
