L'ile et elle

The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain has invited Agne's Varda to present L'ile et elle, an exhibition between melancholy and good humor that brings together her latest installations and videos inspired by Noirmoutier Island. Full of surprises, it offers a visit in tune to the rhythm of the island’s tides.

Active as a filmmaker since 1954, Agne's Varda is best known for directing Cle'o de 5 a' 7 (“Cleo from 5 to 7"), 1961; Sans toit ni loi (“Vagabond"), 1985; Jacquot de Nantes (“Jacquot"), 1990; and Les Glaneurs et la Glaneuse (“The Gleaners and I"), 2000. Since her triple-screen contribution to the 2003 Venice Biennale, entitled Patatutopia, she has been putting her filmmaking practices into question with new configurations.

The exhibition Agne's Varda, L'ile et elle is organized with support from the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, under the aegis of the Fondation de France, and with the sponsorship of Cartier.
