Sierra - Paintings from Spain
The landscapes of Italy, South Africa, New Mexico, Arizona, France, Ireland and Scotland have all provided inspiration for Barbara Rae’s work since her major, very successful shows of Spanish painting in the early 1990s with The Scottish Gallery at the Madrid Art Fair and in London and Edinburgh.
She has now returned to the many places she previously worked in Las Alpujarras, the mountainous region south of Grenada ‘to see how the landscape has changed.’ While a concern for the land and a perceptive awareness of its use and history runs through all her work, this exhibition also reveals an artist painting with supreme command of her sense of design and colour.
We are sure this body of new work by one of Britain’s leading painters, will prove to be one
of the must-see shows of this year’s Edinburgh Festival. A colour catalogue will be available.
