A selection of Italian artists
curated by Chiara Agnello and Roberta Tenconi
Conceived as an ongoing and developing project room, Frame offers an exciting overview of Italian contemporary art practice and provides a unique opportunity to engage with a range of experimentation. The white container of Gertrude’s Studio 12 is transformed into a fascinating magic box, where a video projection changes daily for 22 days, inviting introductions to artists such as Elisabetta Benassi, golidechiari, Marzia Migliora, Patrick Tuttofuoco and ZimmerFrei.
The works explore a range of topics occupying the imaginations of a new generation of Italian artists: themes such as irony and nonsense, architectural environment and minimalism, sound and music, intimate and autobiographical narratives.
During Frame’s development, the private space of Studio 18 will also occasionally be open to host some permanent works and a schedule of special events, such a one-night slide installation by Federico Pietrella, a web project by Roberto Cuoghi which generates a genealogical tree of the contemporary artworld, and the presentation of six artists rewarded by Milan Association ACACIA. In addition, for three days Studio 12 will host “Tatami" by Riccardo Previdi: a wooden structure that animates the space and functions as a screen to present the work of other artists.
Frame - curated by Chiara Agnello and Roberta Tenconi, currently visiting curators at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Melbourne - is part of the project M.M.M (milano.melbourne.milano), a cultural exchange between the sister cities Milan and Melbourne coordinated by Max Delany and Natalie King.
Beginning in Milan in June 2006 with the presentation of a video selection from Careof’s archive, M.M.M includes a range of activities involving the development of residencies, exhibitions and professional relationships. The project will continue in February 2007 with exhibitions of Australian artists in Milan.
M.M.M is supported by City of Melbourne, Victorian Government through Arts Victoria, Monash Univerity of Melbourne, Gertrude Contemporay Art Spaces, with the contribution of City of Milan International Relations Department, ACACIA Associazione Amici Arte Contemporanea and C/O careof.
