Wheels of Dreams

Tommy Hollenstein’s Wheels of Dreams solo exhibit will be on view from September 5th through September 29th at the Infusion Gallery in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles’ Gallery District, 719 Spring Street, Los Angeles, California 90014. Opening reception is Saturday, September 9, 7:00 pm to midnight. An Art Walk reception will be Thursday, September 14 from 6 to 10 pm. Canoga Park artist Tommy Hollenstein’s has been featured on the front page of the Daily News and in Calabasas Magazine. His receptions have brought over 300 people, including celebrities, to view his work. Collectors of his work include actor Joaquin Phoenix and musician Elliot Easton of the New Cars. Hollenstein and Infusion Gallery will be donating 10% of sales the opening night to Canine Companions for Independence a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

Hollenstein’s action paintings are described as a freedom ride through vibrant color and motion. His abstract yet accessible style of working above the canvas has been compared to Jackson Pollock, resulting in direct expressions or revelations that exhibit the unconscious moods of the artist.

Hollenstein’s art style was inspired by his faithful canine companion Weaver, when the artist needed a way to permanently imprint their bond at the end of Weaver’s life. Weaver’s paws and Hollenstein’s wheelchair became the paintbrushes representing a journey between man and his best friend. Weaver helped Hollenstein gain independence for 13-1/2 years after a mountain biking accident in 1985 that left him quadriplegic. The road that led the artist to reinvent himself was encouraged by Weaver and is now captured in his work. It is a journey that is sometimes melancholy and sometimes jubilant, but always inspirational.

Located in the heart of downtown LA's Gallery Row, Infusion Gallery’s 719 Spring Street location is a 3,000-square-foot gallery Gallery Created by artists/curators Dover and Jill Abrams, credited for establishing the art scene in the NoHo Arts District. They are helping to transform LA's downtown into an international art destination.
