Bernardo Giorgi and Cinzia Cozzi
On the frame of the two weeks long workshop in September 2006 led by the artist collective Oda Projesi. (hosted by Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center) will be presented the project patterns istanbul as group discussions and eventual production.
The aim of patterns project is to investigate borders, the one existing between a person and the world, considering that the skin is the limitation / border of the body, clothing represents a second border between a person and the world.
Observing the analogy of maps and pattern sheets, patterns unite two kinds of cartography: the mapping of bodies and the mapping of the environment.
In this project clothing accessories will be created by re-modelling maps of city districts.
The two week long workshop (September 14-28, 2006) is focused on the book Neighborhood, room, neighbor, guest? - New Editions -- produced by Oda Projesi for the 9th Istanbul Biennial in 2005. This is a collective book with 154 “writers"; writers that are neighbors, friends, artists, architects, curators--people that Oda Projesi has met for various reasons. The book begins with a series of questions concerning Istanbul and it develops with the dialogues of “writers" who do not know each other but have known and worked with Oda Projesi on different projects since 2000.
