Illuminate Productions are pleased to present their third exhibition - CORE
CORE brings together a diverse group of international artists exploring the contemporary context of ideas and experiences of the natural elements and redefining artistic practice in the 21st century.
Making site-specific work, artists will both explore the chemical and physical change of matter and act as a physical entity in contact with the elements - opening themselves to embrace time and nature in all traces and chance happenings. In creating a simulacrum of natural phenomena artists will construct a unique sense of time and place.
How do contemporary artists frame their experience of the natural elements?
This exhibition proposes to examine different possibilities and approaches, responding through sculpture, painting, installation, sound and film.
CORE will be held at Union Works, a disused factory on the South Bank, chosen for its unique energy, vast size, temporal structure and historical site - Union Works houses the site of the last remaining bear-baiting arena from the 1680s and will be demolished when the exhibition ends.
Working alongside artists, musicians and lighting designers, Illuminate Productions aims to create an exciting art experience. These ambitious projects aim to not only benefit the artists and musicians involved, but also have a direct impact on the local community.
In conjunction with the Mayor’s Thames Festival, Illuminate Productions will exhibit work by David Cotterrell on the Thames.
'Realty' will be situated on the river by the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on 12th to the 18th September.
Illuminate Productions' was founded in 2004 as a curatorial organisation to provide a platform for artists. The series of exhibitions, which will take place annually, will use natural phenomenon as their central theme and will cover a wide variety of artistic mediums. Illuminate opens up London's lost buildings before their regeneration, enabling artists to work in unusual and challenging contexts. Illuminate aims to open the way for discussion and fresh debate about contemporary art.
