Art, Life & Confusion addresses the question: what is the relationship between contemporary art and everyday life with its many confusing aspects and layers of complexity. The exhibition presents artists of different generations and nationalities, whose works reflect and articulate pertinent social and political issues. The most significant observation is that art is still actively intervening and effecting the social and political spheres. In fact, it has its own, special and highly critical orientation to offer.
As a central concept, the idea of dialogue is emphasized in that the exhibition will be spread over the whole of Belgrade. Presentations in various locations in a number of quarters of the city will allow visitors to see the art on exhibit, to experience the city and to encounter the people who live there. What visitors see in the exhibition spaces can then be linked back to life and tested in terms of art’s relevance for everyday reality. The more abstract way in which art thematizes personal and social change is therefore also related to the real changes that are taking place in the city of Belgrade itself.
The October Art Salon was established in 1960, under the auspices of the City Assembly of Belgrade, as an exhibition of the best art works in the sphere of fine arts. The Salon has become the important segment in the study of the modern Serbian art of the second half of the 20th century, a point of reference of Serbian culture, a representative review of creators in the broad sphere of visual arts and a great exhibition of authors whose selectors are prominent experts in this area.
