Jay Brockman - Black & Light + Marcus Antonius Jansen - Modern Urban Expressionism
Jay Brockman - Black & Light
Marcus Antonius Jansen - Modern Urban Expressionism
Lawrence Asher Gallery presents two dynamic solo shows to begin 2007. Jay Brockman is blossoming into a masterful veteran of the contemporary cityscape. He pushes the envelope and extends his reach to New York and Asia with his usual brilliance and panache. Familiar Southern California subject matter completes this dynamic collection with new focus on subtle, highly effective representation of light and dark. Marcus Antonius Jansen has been exploring the urban, contemporary scene with expressionist’s vigor and a contemporary social scholar’s depth and understanding. These canvases display chaotic precision at the pace of life with color and symbolism that ignite our senses as well as our emotions.
Please join us for the opening reception of these exceptional showcases on Saturday, January 6th, 2007, 6 - 10 pm. Lawrence Asher Gallery is located at 5820 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, across the street from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and adjacent to the Craft and Folk Art Museum. Free parking is available on Wilshire Blvd. and behind 5858 Wilshire Boulevard. Enter on Stanley Ave.

Artist Jay Brockman returns to Lawrence Asher Gallery with the launch of his latest cityscape paintings. Brockman, known for his brilliant and haunting cityscapes of Los Angeles, including the Sunset on Sunset series, has traded iconic LA sunsets for the overloaded, impersonal neon and shouting signs of artificial light. Black and Light takes the viewer into the night and over the edge with decisive brushwork and compelling compositions, complemented by stunning juxtaposition of color. Encompassing Tokyo, New York City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, Brockman again elevates the tradition of cityscape to contemporary status.
