XI International Poetry Festival
Experimental Poetry, Medellin
The XI International Poetry Festival of Medellin will be held from June 1 to June 10, 2001, in Medellin and other 20 Colombian cities with 130 poetry readings in Bogota', Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Manizales, Pereira, Armenia, Popayan, Bucaramanga, Cucuta, Ibague', Tunja, Villavicencio, Pasto, Quibdo', Barrancabermeja, Buenaventura, Valledupar and Riosucio. In opposition with the solipsist criteria of those who consider that the poetic experience can only be lived in intimacy, the poets mission is to reveal the poetic genius that resides in the human's spirit. Poetry is the rhythm and the rhythmic fluid of the living beings that constitute the body of our world, its shared breath.
The drillers of the ancient dream haven't been able to realize the extinction
of true poetry as it was its intention.
In opposition with the solipsist criteria of those who consider that the poetic
experience can only be lived in intimacy, the poets mission is to reveal the
poetic genius that resides in the human's spirit. Poetry is the rhythm and
the rhythmic fluid of the living beings that constitute the body of our world,
its shared breath.
Far away from being absolutely lonely, poetry's combat for recovering us
shall gather humans in an energetic way around the poetic spirit in order to
resist the globalization of despair that fails to recognize centuries of
struggles for the transformation of life.
The nothingness of the despots that amass each day what is finite with
bloody gold, is its secret reason for opposing the dialectic of the dream.
The extreme aspirations of history, politic, religions and philosophie that
buried the pre-historic mysteries and cultures in which the heart of the
species palpitated are only echoes of poetry's manifestation in its origins.
The essential slopes of the human's spiritual tradition evoke the
immemorial sacred land, devoted by poetry as ownership of love in a
remote time.
The people must relearn their lost language and celebrate existence in
massive companionship, in the exercise of its poetic action they must
summon its powers, ignite the collective soul's fire in order of stopping the
massacre, of illuminating the heaven of human's liberty which is still
enchained to the crag of necessity.

poetry readings in Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta,
Manizales, Pereira, Armenia, Popayán, Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Ibagué,
Tunja, Villavicencio, Pasto, Quibdó, Barrancabermeja, Buenaventura,
Valledupar and Riosucio.
I International Exhibition of Experimental Poetry. It consists in the
convergence of diverse tendencies through the works that experimental
poets from all over the world will send in order to be exhibited in several
city sites. Visual Poetry works will be exhibited (from which up to the
moment three exhibitions have been realized in the context of the III, IV
and VII versions of The International Poetry Festival of MedellÃn), digital
poetry works as well as sound poetry and video poetry works will also be
exhibited.
