Museion - Museo d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bolzano
La mostra e' incentrata sulle molteplici potenzialita' della linea - elemento basilare di ogni creazione artistica. Accanto ai mezzi espressivi tradizionali quali disegno e pittura, sono presenti anche nuovi media quali fotografia, video e DVD. Le opere degli artisti che utilizzano la scrittura araba (Kutlug Ataman, Neshat, Hatoum) e anche l’opera dell’artista cinese Chen Zaiyan, estendono la tematica oltre l’area culturale euro-americana. Attraverso alcune opere di Andre' Masson si istituisce inoltre un collegamento storico con il Surrealismo.

“Magic Line" e' una mostra incentrata sulle molteplici potenzialita' della linea - elemento basilare di ogni creazione artistica. Le funzioni della linea sono molteplici: e' disegno e rappresentazione; e' traccia astratta, prodotta dal gesto dell’artista; e' scrittura, portatrice di un’ampia gamma di significati, dai piu' semplici ai piu' complessi. Scopo della mostra e' indagare, attraverso una selezione di opere rappresentative, i momenti di intersezione tra queste diverse funzioni e potenzialita' della linea.
L’impostazione della mostra prevede un insieme di opere gia' esistenti concesse in prestito ed altre create espressamente dagli artisti nelle sale del Museion. Accanto ai mezzi espressivi tradizionali quali disegno e pittura, sono presenti anche nuovi media quali fotografia, video e DVD. Le opere degli artisti che utilizzano la scrittura araba (Kutlug Ataman, Neshat, Hatoum) e anche l’opera dell’artista cinese Chen Zaiyan estendono la tematica oltre l’area culturale euro-americana ad altre culture, la cui importanza in ambito internazionale e' in rapida crescita. Attraverso alcune opere di Andre' Masson si istituira' un collegamento storico con il Surrealismo, movimento che per la prima volta ha esplorato compiutamente le potenzialita' della linea.
Gli artisti in mostra sono: Kutlug Ataman, Joseph Beuys, Hanne Darboven, Joseph Grigely Mona Hatoum, Andre' Masson, Shirin Neshat, Gastone Novelli, Cy Twombly, Chen Zaiyan e Otto Zitko. Grigely e Zitko creeranno le proprie opere nelle sale del museo espressamente per la mostra.
Il catalogo trilingue (italiano, tedesco e inglese) di circa 100 pagine, con 60 illustrazioni a colori e testi critici di Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Andreas Hapkemeyer e Siegfried J. Schmidt, sara' pubblicato da Edizioni Charta di Milano.

Magic Line

"Line" can be seen as a "magical," archetypal element of all creativity in the visual arts. At the very same time, it has always been—and still today remains—a fundamental constant of writing. From simplest scribble to articulate vehicle of complex content, line presents an almost endless range of possibilities in the realm of the realization and perception of images. The exhibition "Magic Line" will also examine transitions, transformations and ambiguities between representation, abstract gesture and writing in the use and articulation of line.
The works on view will be by both European and extra-European artists: Andre Masson (as an historical reference point), Cy Twombly, Joseph Beuys, Hanne Darboven, Mona Hatoum, Shirin Neshat, Joseph Grigely, Otto Zitko, Kutlug Ataman, Gastone Novelli and Chen Zaiyan.
On the occasion of this exhibition, a catalogue will be published by Charta (Milano), with texts by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio (art critic), S.J. Schmidt (communication scientist) and Andreas Hapkemeyer (curator of the exhibition).

The Museum is located in the historical centre of the city of Bolzano, at a distance of only a few hundred meters from the railway station. It can be reached by bus and taxi.
Out-of-town visitors who come to the city by car can exit from the Brenner Highway (A22) at Bolzano North or Bolzano South. The city can also be reached by way of state highway SS 12 (northward from Trento or southward from the Brenner Pass) and as well by way of state highway SS 38 (from Merano and the Resia Pass).
Automobiles can be parked at the garages in Via Mayr-Nusser, Piazza Walther, Via Alto Adige, and also in metered parking zones (marked blue).
