Ogni installazione di Magda To'thova' racconta una storia. Ha un nucleo centrale, uno svolgimento e un ''finale'' aperto all'interpretazione. L'artista usa lo spazio per ricreare un universo parallelo costruito attraverso l'immaginazione, dove ci si puo' muovere, perdere e poi ritrovarsi nuovamente. Un mondo surreale, ma dotato di un'esistenza autonoma, per rileggere ironicamente i paradigmi sociali.

Ne la preda, un ragno ha lasciato improvvisamente la sua tela un anno fa dopo un disastro ambientale. Ma il gene di una donna si e' posato su queste maglie. Piccolo, pero' abbastanza forte da generare una nuova societa'. Ora, una presenza sconosciuta si trova ad affrontarla. Ci sono diverse stazioni e diversi mondi, quale scegliere? Quale percorso intraprendere? La ragnatela che riempie la galleria e' un rifugio o una trappola?

L'artista rappresenta il momento della paura di cio' che e' sconosciuto. Partendo da un fatto fantastico, Magda To'thova' racconta le angosce di una societa' chiusa verso cio' che le sfugge e che non riesce a dominare.

Magda To'thova' (Bratislava, 1979) ha partecipato alla Biennale di Bratislava e ha esposto in numerosi spazi pubblici e privati, tra cui il Contemporary Art Museum di St. Louis, la Tate Modern di Londra, The Renaissance Society di Chicago, Curator Space di Londra, Stella Art Gallery di Mosca e Galerie Andreas Huber di Vienna. Vive a Vienna.

Each installation by Magda To'thova' tells a story. In her works, she uses the space to recreate a fantastic world where it is possible to move in, to get lost and find the beginning again. To'thova'’s minimal interventions ironically focus on moments denoting an unconventional reading of social paradigms.

In the current show, the space is filled by a big spider web. Years ago, a spider left it after an environmental disaster. Only a gen of a woman passing by the cobweb is left by an accident on the surface of the web, but this was enough for a new tiny society to be born within the overleft structure. Now, an unknown faces with this new world, and well organized everyday life seems to be in danger. There are different universes, sensations and feeling. How to go on? Is the spider web a bolt-hole or a trap? And what is the real reason to be terrified?

The artist represents the fear. Moving from a fantastic situation, Magda To'thova' tells a story of a society scared by what is different and not instantly understandable.

Magda To'thova' (Bratislava, 1979) participated in the Bratislava Biennale. She exhibited her works in the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, Tate Modern, London, Haunch of Venision, London, The Renaissance Society, Chicago, Curator Space, London, Stella Art Gallery, Moscow and Galerie Andreas Huber, Wien. She lives in Wien.
