Popular Linda sculpture

Popular Linda sculpture

It seems as though just about everyone loves Linda, John DeAndrea's ultra-lifelike sculpture at the Denver Art Museum. Since making her first appearance in 1984, Linda has become one of the Museum's most popular artworks. Linda will be on view at the Denver Art Museum through March 4, 2007.

DeAndrea, a Colorado-based artist, meticulously painted the "skin" surface of Linda, including tiny details such as freckles, and he finished her by applying natural hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes-strand by strand. He once said, "If I could make it breathe I'd say, 'I've done a good day's work now.'" Linda is one of the Museum's most-frequently asked about works of art. However, because the polyvinyl material she is made of is very sensitive to climate and lighting conditions, the Museum cannot keep Linda on display continually. Don't miss your chance to see Linda at the Museum in February, "Everyone Loves Linda" month!

Untitled #1(Vertigo) on February 23

Calling all late-night revelers to the Denver Art Museum on the final Friday in February for dizzying entertainment and fascinating art experiences! On Friday, February 23, from 6-10 p.m., the Museum will launch Untitled #1(Vertigo), the first in the Museum's series of Untitled final Friday events for city-goers looking for a unique night out.

At each month's Untitled event, visitors can expect music, film, food, a cash bar, and art-inspired activities. At February's Untitled #1 (Vertigo), curious attendees can test their susceptibility to vertigo on the "vertigometer," and experience off-the-wall tours of the art collection, along with some late-night guerilla de-tours inside the building. This month they'll also experience Farouche performance artists, interactive technology, and Vertigo, the Alfred Hitchcock movie projected on the angled titanium sides of the new Frederic C. Hamilton Building. Catering will be provided by Bistro Boys and Gourmet Fine Catering. The Untitled final Friday series of events are included in regular Museum admission.

StART the Rhythm Family Event on February 17

Adults and kids of all ages are invited to experience the art of music at the Denver Art Museum on February 17, 2007. Denver artist Darrell Anderson and local high school step teams will be part of the myriad of performances and hands-on activities in this one-day event. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Denver Art Museum will be alive with rhythm!

Visitors can expect engaging hands-on "rhythm" activities, including instruments and artworks, and can enjoy "The Stomp" performances featuring the T.R.O.O.P., Lady Hawks 3.0 and Solid Confidence step teams, made up of students from Jefferson High School, Prairie Middle School, Montbello High School, and other Denver-area schools. The Percussion Ensemble from the Denver School of the Arts will also be one of the many performers presenting every hour, on the hour. Between performances, interactive drop-in-drawing workshops and artist demonstrations will provide families with hours of participatory entertainment! Included in general Museum admission, these live musical performances, dance and music-inspired art activities are all in addition to the Museum's everyday offering for families.
