Houses that form Tirana

Outdoor-projection by Erik Goengrich
Curated by Stefano Romano

Tirana, Albania is a city that is living through a boost in urbanization. A city whose mayor has collaborated with international curators in painting it's facades during the second edition of Tirana Biennial. Tirana, a city with an urban planning and architecture designed by the Italians during the occupation in World War II, that after 50 years of communist dictatorship seeks it's new identity between new high-rising buildings and old houses in bricks. A German artist, Erik Goengrich is presenting his personal interpretations of the city together with suggestive questions concerning urban city-planning and design proposals for new buildings in Tirana. The designs, developed out of everyday life, either it is ugly or beautiful, questions the sculptural and architectural development of any city: What are the possibilities of the found situation onto which we continue to build a monument or a house? How can we enter this discussion from new and unexpected viewpoints? The drawn proposals and questions will be projected from a car onto the facades of the city and at the final stop; against the Pyramid.

Erik Goengrich is a city-artist living in Berlin making site-specific works in different places. To Tirana he is invited by TICA - Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art to realise a 1.60 project, dealing with the urban situation of the city.

Onesixty is a space for the realization of art shows and exhibitions chosen in the urban (city) spaces by the curators and at the same time by the artists invited by Stefano Romano. This exhibition is realized with the collaboration of TICA - Tirana Institute for Contemporary Art.
