New Works
The McCaig-Welles Gallery is pleased to present an
exhibition of new works by New York-based painter
and photographer David Hochbaum. The exhibition
will open with a reception on Friday April 6th from
7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Combining sculpture, photography, silk screens,
acetate transfers and traditional painting techniques,
Hochbaum's recent work asks us to step outside the
multilevel-ed fortifications built around our true selves
- claustrophobic metropoli which serve to both protect
and obfuscate the intentions of their respective
populations.
Gigantic characters loom over the boundaries of these
psychic barriers. Messengers from the collective
subconscious, they carry bundles of wood, sailing ships,
horns and other iconic objects as offerings; enticements
meant to remind us of our commonality before isolation
separates us forever.
David Hochbaum was born in NY. He has
exhibited extensively throughout the United States
and abroad. His work is in major private and
public collections.
