Zonia Nel-Scheffer & Uwe Pfaff
Uwe Pfaff and Zonia Nel-Scheffer have produced work around the theme
Heaspaces for their show at Artspace in April 2007. Zonia's colourful
tongue-in-cheek paintings comment on the fast-paced world we live in. The
works portray the chaotic and sometimes absurd state of mind found in modern
society. The works have a heuristic quality but are indeed making comment
on the stressful surroundings of the world today. In this exhibition she
plays with words and idioms relating to the brain and the resultant humour
of the works is at once clear through her exploration of how the human mind
typically copes with modern life - using energy drinks and pills.
Uwe Pfaff has a special set of keys that open some very unusual, visual and
tactile doors. Years ago his exhibitions consisted of legs detached from
their bodies and bringing his development as an artist to a head his work
for this show is about what goes on in his head when he is not sleeping.
Headspace is for Uwe a place to run to, to escape from. Heavy metal
entwined with the filigree of dreams. Uwe's work has had impressive media
coverage, both locally and internationally and while critics strain the
adjectives to describe the spirit made metal creations of Uwe Pfaff join us
at Artspace for art that you can beat, metal that can sing bursting with
potential sonic arias. Grey matter anti matter and mad hatters all welcome.
