Come One Come All opens mysterious and familiar doors to Bushwick and beyond. This exhibition draws inspiration from the dark jamboree of county carnivals, the bizarre oscillations of masquerades, and the utopian driven innovation of world fairs. 29 artists use photography, sculpture, performance, painting, video, and installation to walk the tightrope between the fantastic and the freaky. For the opening event, over 20 dancers, six bands, deejays, baked goods, arcade games, and other curiosities will join the pageantry. These are the sights, sounds, tastes, and movements of the future as well as the past.

Come One Come All embraces artifice with sincerity and perceives reality through the strange iris of artifice. As one peers into the smoke and mirrors, reflections of money, sex, aggression, exhibitionism, technology, tradition, ecological toxicity, and captivity also come to focus. The spectacle of this art fair is not shopping frenzy, but rather the sensuous bacchanal of imagery, performance, thought, craft, community love, and criticism.

Rather than keeping art quarantined within its discipline, Come One Come All seeks to fortify the senses by housing multifarious expressions under one expansive roof. Thankful for the resources that allow us to do so, we think of areas in which poverty or tragedy have removed both roof and resources from the inhabitants. Proceeds from the benefit show and a percentage of art sales will be donated to communities damaged by Hurricane Katrina through Common Ground.

Revolving like a Tilt-a-Whirl on gears of simulated sensation and hyper-real spectacle, Come One Come All is the product of genuine inquiry while still deeply immersed in the fair as a physical albeit fleeting experience. Rather than mere viewers, you are invited to step right up, try your luck, let it all go, and let it all come in.
