PHotoEspaña is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a wideranging programme of exhibitions. The event offers chance to see some of the top names in photography and major group exhibitions

Between May 30 and July 22, PHE07 will be offering more than 60 exhibitions with work by photographers and visual artists from 31 countries. Twenty-six international curators are involved in the programming of this edition

Bruce Davidson, Lynn Davis and Sylvia Plachy will all be exhibiting in Spain for the very first time. The Festival will include retrospectives on the work of Zhang Huan, Andres Serrano and Man Ray. Sebastião Salgado and Raymond Depardon also feature

Neorealism. The new image of Italy, 1932-1960; Local. The end of globalisation; and Margins are the major group exhibitions on this year's programme

PHotoEspaña will also include work by a new generation of young Spanish photographers at an exhibition of the NOPHOTO Collective and Five European perspectives. Spanish and Latin- American photography (Cinco miradas europeas. Fotografía española e hispanoamericana)

For its tenth anniversary, PHotoEspaña will be crossing the border: Le Jeu de Paume gallery is joining the official programme with an exhibition in Paris. The Arles Festival will also be staging an exhibition on Alberto García-Alix, organised by PHotoEspaña

The exhibition rooms of the Teatro Circo Price, the BBVA and the Instituto Cervantes are set to make their Festival début. The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Biblioteca Nacional and the Fundación Canal are also taking part in the Official Section

PHE Encounters (Encuentros PHE) will bring more than 50 international specialists to Madrid to analyse the present and future of photography. Campus PHE will be organising workshops in Aranjuez with Peter Beard, Isabel Muñoz, Gilles Peress, Anders Petersen, Eugenio Recuenco and others

A particularly special event will also be descending on Madrid's famous arts district, “El Barrio de las Letras”. Photography Night will include slide projections and live music in the streets and squares of the Spanish capital

The general catalogue will take the form of a dictionary featuring the 190 artists who have had their own exhibitions over the ten years of the Festival's history

PHotoEspaña made its debut back in 1998. The event was created with a clear objective in mind: to promote the public exhibition of the best international photographers and visual artists, and become an annual meeting place for professionals, a debating arena and a platform for young creators and projects. Ten years on, PHotoEspaña is the world photography festival. More than 2,000 artists have now taken part in a key event which has featured 587 exhibitions and received five and a half million visitors. Public loyalty and the commitment of more than 80 sponsors and 60 institutions and art centres have combined to make it a joint success, confirming a latent social demand for a discipline that has monopolised the creation of contemporary art and its market over the past ten years.

PHotoEspaña sets out to celebrate this past decade with a diverse and wide-ranging proposal. The Official Section will include top names in international photography alongside new ventures, curated by specialists Guillermo Becerril, Camilla Brown, Catherine Coleman, Noriko Fuku, Joaquín Gallego, Elena Geuna, Déborah Holz, John Jacob, Jun Jun Hu, Nina Kassianou, Oliva María Rubio, Juan Carlos Mena, Trilce, Ana Martín López, Moritz Neumüller, the NOPHOTO Collective, Michel Philippot, Mireia Sentís, Josefine Raab, Joanna Studizska, Olga Sviblova, Enrica Viganò, Lélia Wanick Salgado, Rosalind Williams, Paul Wombell and Cristina Zelich. PHE07, which will produce most of the exhibitions, has programmed individual exhibitions by international figures never seen before in Spain and a number of key group initiatives.

The Festival will provide the backdrop for analysis of the current state of photography at a special meeting aimed at professionals in the trade. It will be led by Christian Caujolle, assisted by photographers and international experts. Workshops and master classes, portfolio viewing, a photographic marathon, guided tours of exhibitions and the celebration of the La Noche de la Fotografía will complete this year's programme.

PHotoEspaña 2007 will officially be opened by HRH Infanta Elena of Spain, on May 30 at 11.30 a.m. at the Real Jardín Botánico.
