Arturo Herrera

Thomas Dane Gallery, London

The artist presents large felt pieces and paper on canvas collages. Unlike the heavily incised felts made by the artist between 1998 and 2003 which suggest painterly drip paintings, the new works rely exclusively on abstract shapes cut from wool felt. The new series sees him incorporate his own acrylic paintings on canvas, restricting himself to one or two paper fragments to create collages addressing the impurity of abstraction.

Solo show

Arturo Herrera's works probe the language of abstraction through fragmentation. The artist presents a non-linear narrative referencing pop culture to modernism to create works that hover between the explicit and the implicit.

For this first exhibition at Thomas Dane Gallery, Herrera will present large felt pieces and paper on canvas collages. Unlike the heavily incised felts made by the artist between 1998 and 2003 which suggest painterly drip paintings, the new works rely exclusively on abstract shapes cut from wool felt. The new series of works on paper sees Herrera incorporate his own acrylic paintings on canvas, restricting himself to one or two paper fragments to create collages addressing the impurity of abstraction.
