The Peter Blake Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent work by Tony
Berlant and Suong Yangchareon.
Tony Berlant has been creating works using his signature medium of found and
fabricated tin collaged on plywood for almost forty years. A southern
California artist with a consummate sense of gesture and color, each piece suggests
an open space between abstraction and landscape, readymade and mosaic.
Ironically, given his choice of materials, many of the works in this
exhibition suggest flowers, offering a meditation on the transience of beauty in a
durable form.
Suong Yangchareon is an urban landscape painter who lives and works in Los Angeles.
His paintings document the evolution of the Southern California landscape - bridges, underpasses, decrepit movie houses, and hazy cityscape vistas.
His pristine technique and sense of place allow the viewer a glimpse of the
beauty they likely fail to notice in the business of ordinary time. They are
visions of solitude in the midst of the metropolis.
Opening Reception: Thursday, June 7, 6 - 9 pm.
