URBANBODIES 2 is presented at the Greenwich Picture House. URBANBODIES invites the audience to engage on a direct level with art pieces that range from; film, installation, sculpture and painting over a 24-hour period.
Six artists present a series of monthly shows transforming the window space respectively. They will investigate the luminosity of an artificial light source, which combined with references to the urban environment transforms the space with radiant energy stimulating the viewer’s visual perception.

Using layers and layers of tissue paper mixed with water and pva, I cast objects, fragments of rooms or entire spaces that I then literally peel off like a skin once it has dried. My work deals with the ideas of absence and impermanence. My sculptures are like an echo, a trace of the original object /space I chose to cast. They can also be a record, an evidence of something that is bygone, hovering between absence and presence.

Lately, I have started to explore the themes of mortality and transience. I suddenly found the photographs of the objects covered in tissue paper as interesting as the paper casts themselves. Consequently, I have been making compositions of real objects in the manner of Memento Mori. Skulls, decaying fruits, flowers, books, remind us that we will die and suggest the fleeting nature of earthly pleasures. I cover each object with tissue paper, using water and pva, take photographs of the composition and then mount the blown up image onto acetate. The tissue paper is like a trace of decay that has taken over the real objects, layer upon layer. At the same time, its texture looks like brush strokes, evoking an old master painting. The final image is delicate and fragile, as if hovering between two ages, between reality and fiction.

Another new direction in my work is the use of paper with resin. I am particularly interested by the accidental found forms, which I trap in resin. Covered with resin, the paper becomes something else, three dimensional, translucent and solid, beautiful and intriguing.
