Assembly: Art in the Bar - We Are Not What We Seem. The artist's work explores themes of transformation and initiation - the subconscious and dream worlds we occupy during the moments between sleep and wakefulness.
Virginia Head’s work explores themes of transformation and initiation - the subconscious and dream worlds we occupy during the moments between sleep and wakefulness. In her new body of work ‘We Are Not What We Seem’, Head focuses on the daydream, seeking out that transient state where the mundane is temporarily illuminated. The mood and pace of her animations evoke languid yet lucid journeys to parallel dimensions, where latent urges and intangible forces are at large.
Head examines how we perceive one another through an instinctive or sixth sense, receiving information and processing it while allowing the ghosts of past experiences to cast their shadows. Head’s new work will be shown alongside existing works at Chapter, including her animation ‘Pelegrina’ (2006). ‘Pelegrina’ was shown earlier this year as part of the ‘Welsh Artist of the Year’ exhibition in Cardiff in which Head came second.
