Contemporary Shamanism & the Ayahuasca Ritual"
a presentation by Wilbert Alix

Shamans, Voudou, visionary plants from the Amazon S come meet Wilbert Alix, spiritual explorer and world traveler for our latest "Reports from Afield." Focusing on a modern, "christianized" shamanic society of Brazil (the Santo Diame Doctrine), he will show video and music recorded at actual shamanistic rituals from throughout South America. These well-constructed rituals incorporate the use of sound healing, music, chanting and singing, dance and yage or ayahuaca, the most legendary of all Amazonian visionary plants. Introduced by Mobius Artists Group member Jennifer Hicks (a certified Natale Institute Trance Dance facilitator), Wilbert Alix will discuss the use of visionary plant medicine and shamanic techniques as a means of promoting mental and physical well-being.

Wilbert Alix's pioneering work with Trance Dance and Soul Hunting has introduced thousands to the mysteries which lie within Shamanism. His popular TV show, Awakening the Mind, has aired on public TV since 1990. His research work and educational seminars are conducted in various cultures around the world.

(NOTE: On November 28th, Mobius Artist Group member Jennifer Hicks will be leading a Natale Institute Trance Dance Workshop, with special guest Wilbert Alix, at the Sargent Dance Studio at Boston University. For more information, contact Jennifer Hicks at 617-783-4614 or jhicks5634@aol.com)

"Reports from Afield" is an ongoing series of monthly Monday evening talks by members of the Mobius Artists Group and guest artists. These presentations focus on projects that have been created abroad or outside the Boston area, or in a public area, and that explore important artistic, socio-cultural, or political issues. In addition, many of the reports reflect Mobius' increasingly international outlook. Please call the Mobius office if you would like more information about this program.

In 2001, Mobius has been granted a Boston's Best Performance Art award by The Improper Bostonian. "For more than 21 years, Mobius has been the city's premiere venue for experimental art, programming a 42-week roller-coaster ride of events that range from consciousness-raising to the downright bizarre. The annual ArtRages fundraiser is one of the funkiest and most fun happenings in town, and the group's commitment to the Fort Point artists' community is one of the few things standing between it and the developers' wrecking ball. Our hats are off to them."

Monday, November 26th, 7 pm
