Centre for Contemporary Photography's current exhibition
program on until 15 December:

Fresh From Paris.
Damiano Bertoli, Ingrid Braun, Clare Firth-Smith, David Harley, Julian Holcroft, Barnard McIntyre, Darren Sylvester and Blair Trethowan. Curated by Clare Firth-Smith & Ingrid Braun Discarding the notion of a proscribed, unifying theme, FRESH FROM PARIS constructs a form of commonality through attitude. Each artist challenges the boundaries of their chosen medium in an effort to broaden and complexify their practice.
'Concept' and 'process' are explored as primary concerns, from Ingrid Braun's investigation into divergent spatial realms - informed by early 1980s graffiti art and Op Art - to Darren Sylvester's portrayal of fashion and its fleeting currency. The FRESH FROM PARIS artists focus particularly on engaging in an exchange of ideas related to interdisciplinary studio practice and regional/locational issues. Their work is research-orientated and includes photographic, video, and digital prints.
[GALLERY ONE & TWO]

Parekohai Whakamoe. Storing Up
The shed/barn is a covert construct, creating a space in which humans can indulge in private and/or suspicious activities including meditation, grabbing a nap, sneaking smokes or more sinister clandestine activities. STORING UP constructs a small rural scenario to encapsulate the threshold space of the shed. Using a collection of video stills to move in and around this forest-scape, Whakamoe creates an all-encompassing feeling of unease, heightened by an accompanying woodchopping sound track which simultaneously disrupts and emphasises the solitude of this shelter, equivocally signalling sustenance and destruction.

Ross Gibson & Kate Richards. DARKNESS LOITERS
DARKNESS LOITERS, a story engine for personal computer and public gallery, is based on a hidden archive of post WWII scene-of-the-crime photographs. This CD-ROM work involves a purpose built work station, in which visitors furtively explore evocative black and white images of an Australian city. With designer Aaron Rogers, programmer and sound designer Greg White, and composer and sound designer Chris Abrahams, this will be the first time this important Australian new media work has been seen in Melbourne.
DARKNESS LOITERS received funding support from the Australia Council for the Arts, University of Technology Sydney and the Australian Film Commission.
A part of the 24-7 Digital Art Program Curated by Daniel Palmer and supported by Cinemedia
