This fourth edition of the fair focuses on the immediate accessibility of digital and video art to everyone in the art world. With 10 to 20 shipping containers in the heart of the gallery district, West Chelsea, it intend to be the most visible art fair in New York this year. Related events include private parties, lectures and screening. By making the streets of West Chelsea its venue, DiVA is redefining the idea of the Fair as market place.
Frère Independent is proud to announce DiVA New York 2008 “The Streets”. This
year DiVA focuses on the immediate access a ground level presence provides.
With 10 to 20 shipping containers in the heart of the gallery district, West
Chelsea, we intend to be the most visible art fair in New York this year. Last
year’s identical format garnered the attention of TV channels such as
Bloomberg TV and Fox5 along with an estimated attendance of 10,000+ visitors.
“The streets” opens on Saturday March 22nd with a preview from 2pm to 8pm. The
containers re-open the following Tuesday and runs through March 30th. These
dates allow for the video and new media art works to be on view the Saturday
before the week of all the fairs. This will catch the attention of collectors and
professional as they arrive in town and later on again as they commute between
Chelsea and the Armory Show.
Most DiVA related events will take place at White Box located on at 525 Wet
26th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. These events include, private parties,
lectures and screening. White box will also host the ongoing VIP lounge and the
information point for DiVA The Streets. a sample of the works on view in the
container will also be on view at White Box. This program is at the discretion of
the exhibitor. (White Box is a not for profit organization.)
The kick off party will take place in a near by garage. Amenities include an ice
cream truck, 2DJs, and stationary limousines acting as bar to entertain our
carefully selected guests. Members of the press and VIP cardholders will be
offer private DiVA pedi-cab for an effortless, fast and green tour of the
containers.
By making the streets of West Chelsea its venue, DiVA is redefining the idea of the Fair as market place. West Chelsea is a market place itself, with the greatest concentration of galleries in the world. In addition to being a natural destination for the art world, West Chelsea will be one of two major destinations during the week of the fairs. All serious collectors and art affiliates will be traveling between The armory show and Chelsea primarily.
The containers open the Saturday before the week of the fairs. All containers are open until 8pm, allowing all gallery owners and staff to visit the show after business hours, along with guests of the numerous vernissages taking place in Chelsea that week.
The containers are on the streets with easy access to the public at no charge. Exhibitors have an option of reserving a 20ft. container, 40ft. container, or 32ft. mini gallery on a flat bed.
Nearby: Guests can walk to all major art galleries including Gagosian, Pace, Paula Cooper, Gladstone. Chelsea is also the home of the Chelsea Art Museum, and numerous Restaurants, bars and lounges like Bottino, Empire diner, Marquee, and pink Elephant.
DiVA at White Box
DiVA offers a sampling of all participating works in Chelsea at white box. Works will be displayed on mini DVD players at the discretion of the exhibitors. Other activities will also take place at White Box, including parties, lectures, screenings, and the VIP Lounge.
