Modern Culture At The Gershwin Hotel will present "Anne Militello: Radiate
(Not Fade Away)," an exhibition of site-specific lighting installations by
Anne Militello.
Evocative and astonishing lighting installations by Los Angeles- & New
York-based artist
Anne Militello will comprise this exhibition, an exploration of the mind's
relationship with luminosity.
Ms. Militello's exhibiton will be composed
of abstract and ever-changing light projections.
The works--both large and
intimate in scale--will examine the convergence of the human experience and
light.
Sensations and emotions, as well as recollections and
extrapolations, are expected to be stirred up by these--Ms. Militello's
latest--works.
Ms. Militello, one of the foremost lighting professionals in the USA, is an
instructor in The Mind Studio, which is jointly run in Pasadena by Art
Center College of Design and California Institute of Technology.
Ms.
Militello is the master planner of lighting of the soon-to-be renovated
Lincoln Center, New York.
Recognized for her innovative lighting projects, Ms. Militello has recently
been honored by the Illumination Engineering Society of North America and
the International Association of Lighting Designers for her artistic
achievements in the exterior lighting design of the New 42nd Street
Studios, Times Square, New York. Additional noteworthy architectural
lighting projects by Ms. Militello include the Avalon Hotel, Beverly Hills;
the Arts Council of New Orleans Building, New Orleans; Tokyo Bazaar, Tokyo;
and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago.
Ms. Militello, a recipient of
the Obie Award for sustained excellence in lighting design in the
Off-Broadway theater, is also known for her lighting work in concerts (with
Pearl Jam and Tom Waits), film productions (with David Lynch), and
theatrical productions (with playwrights/directors, Sam Shepard and Maria
Irene Fornés).
"Anne Militello: Radiate (Not Fade Away)" will be Ms. Militello's first
art gallery exhibition.
