comunicato stampa

We are delighted to announce the 24th exhibition in our year-long series of artist pairings, this time presenting eight photographs from a new series, Zoo Polaroids (Barcelona) by Peter Liversidge, alongside two projections of Fischli + Weiss’ seminal films Der Rechte Weg (The Right Way) 1983, and Der Geringste Widerstand (The Point of Least Resistance) 1981.

Internationally celebrated Swiss artists Fischli + Weiss (b. 1952, b. 1946) have worked collaboratively since 1979, making films, photographs and installations which transform the everyday and familiar into things strange, amusing and fantastic. These two films as chosen by Liversidge, feature the artists as a rat and a bear in two rather incongruous settings – hiking through the countryside in The Right Way, and attempting to infiltrate the machinations of the art world, in The Point of Least Resistance

Peter Liversidge (b. 1973) lives and works in London. This wonderful group of polaroids was made in Barcelona Zoo during his most recent solo exhibition, Proposals for Barcelona at Centre d’Art Santa Monica. This is the first time they will be exhibited. Other recent exhibitions have included For They Know Not What They Do at Ingleby Gallery (2007), Fair Proposals at Art Statements, Art 38 Basel, June 2007; Proposals for Brussels, as the United Kingdom’s representative in the 2007 Europalia Festival (with the British Council). Forthcoming projects include contributions to Cancelled Erased & Removed at the Sean Kelly Gallery, New York this summer, and The Fifth Floor at Tate Liverpool from December 2008 – February 2009.

Following the success of Fair Proposals, Ingleby Gallery will present a new project by Liversidge as part of Art Unlimited for Art 39 Basel , from 4 – 8 June 2008. Titled simply Fruit Trees for Basel , Peter Liversidge has planted three varieties of English Apple trees in public and private locations in and around Basel. These plantings have been photographed, and will be shown in their “before” and “after” states during the Fair.
