comunicato stampa

Portrait paintings by Julie Bennett, Lee Maelzer and Matthew Stradling.

Sartorial Contemporary Art is pleased to present “ Up Close and Personal” a show of three outstanding London based artists . Matthew Stradling, who in recent years has been selected for the BP Portrait Award, and selected by Sothebys to represent Britain in an international touring show. His paintings are in collections in Europe , America and the Middle East.

Lee Maelzer, who is a Royal College graduate, has been nominated for the John Moores award and was awarded the Abbey Fellowship at the British School at Rome . She has had two successful solo shows in London and her work has featured in exhibitions in Holland , Switzerland , Germany and the U.S. Julie Bennett , who showed her paintings with Saatchi this year, has recently been featured in both The Independent and the Evening Standard. Her paintings are in collections in the U.K and Brazil.

Matthew's paintings are tender and beautiful. They are special. His paintings can be very moving.
Lee's work takes us to different places. They have a cinematic quality. She is an amazing painter.
Julie makes paintings that delight and excite. She transforms photos from glossy magazines into
high art.

Up Close And Personal features both old and new work. Some of the paintings are incredibly positive and contain a great deal of humour and warmth. Two of the artists in the show chose to contribute examples of portraits they did of their parents – it's possible that some viewers will find these works disturbing simply because they contain so much honesty. The nudity in some of Stradlings paintings may make some visitors feel uncomfortable. None of the work you'll see in this show are paintings you see everyday. Sartorial's aim is to put on a show that will always stay with you. We believe the paintings in this exhibition will move you and make you think again about what it's possible to achieve with paint.
