A series of videos documenting street protests in various countries, organized by civil movements that are in opposition to structures of repression affiliated to the state, the government and the army. 3 videos, shot in New York, Sao Paolo and Santiago refer to specific socio-political disturbances, which may be used as case studies for situations that reoccur throughout the continent.
In the last 3 years, Carlos Motta has developed a series of videos documenting street protests in various countries in the Americas, organized by civil movements that are in opposition to structures of repression affiliated to the state, the government and the army. Three videos, shot in New York, Saô Paolo and Santiago respectively, compose this program, and refer to three specific socio-political disturbances, which may be used as case studies for situations that reoccur throughout the continent, if not the world.
September 22, 2005 takes place in a "street vendor evacuation action" by the Metropolitan Police of Saô Paolo, Brazil on September 22, 2005. Memory of a Protest, 2007 is a documentary that takes place during a street protest -organized by Chilean human rights organization Kamarikun- held on the streets of Santiago, Chile in November 2006 against the infamous US sponsored military training institution “ The School of The Americas”. Where Do I Stand? Right, Left or The Human Kind ?, 2008 documents the polarized political situation in Colombia from the
lens of two recent protests against violence. The central question in this work is an inquiry about the formation of individuals within the frame
of ideological and warfare manipulation from the part of the state or insurgent.
