Two point five

Program, Berlin

A site specific installation, the outcome of a first time experimental collaboration between artist Elin Hansdottir and choreographer Margret Bjarnadottir. They developed a spatial strategy to expose the silent character within moments in the gallery space. Corners, doors, edges, or the otherwise mundane, featureless parts of the room begin to reveal a suggestion of life.

comunicato stampa

two point five is a site specific installation, the outcome of a first time experimental collaboration between artist Elín Hansdóttir and choreographer Margrét Bjarnadóttir. Developed over two months, Hansdóttir and Bjarnadóttir have merged their practices in fine art and dance and developed a spatial strategy to expose the silent character within moments in the gallery space. Corners, doors, edges, or the otherwise mundane, featureless parts of the room begin to reveal a 'suggestion' of life.

Fragmented moving shadows and glimmering reflections are interrupted as visitors walk past projected beams of light, creating accidental overlaps between the two-dimensional moving images on the wall and the three-dimensional movement in the gallery space. The title of the piece, two point five, suggests this liminal condition; the perception and experience of the piece can only be known by moving through and around the gallery. Two point five discloses an aesthetics of parallax–an aesthetics that is revealed peripatetically within space and between disciplines.

Margrét Bjarnadóttir is a choreographer living and working in Iceland. Margrét studied at the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and has recently presented her works "Strength Through Embarrassment" at the New Baltic Dance Festival in Vilnius and the Resolution! Dance Festival in London (2008), and "SGWÍMSLI" (a collaboration with Saga Sigurdardóttir) at the Reykjavik Dance Festival (2007).

Elín Hansdóttir is an Icelandic artist working in Berlin. Her installations focus on the act of paying attention, where the viewer is drawn in a physical dialogue with the work, emphasizing his/her experience of being there. Recent shows include Path at Maribel Lopez Gallery Berlin, Frieze Projects in London and Between Two Deaths at the ZKM Mediamuseum in Karlsruhe, Germany. [http://www.elinhansdottir.net]
