Ilya and Emilia Kabakov

Moscow Retrospective. A flashy new gallery for contemporary art and culture in Moscow launched on 12th June, transforming a 1927 bus garage designed by Constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov into a new venue for contemporary art. The full completion of the space in 2009 will provide a fantastic venue for interesting and bright ideas for Russian culture and education. Having such a large space - 85,000 square feet - also allows for exhibiting massive pieces such as the Kabakovs' Red Wagon (1991), described as an "iconic piece" that has never been shown in Russia. Coordinator of the project is Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, a curator who has worked in the past for Gagosian Gallery. The show will be contemporary in the Winzavod Moscow Contemporary Art Center and in the Pushkin Musum of Fine Arts.
