Stan Douglas is one of the most significant artists to have emerged in the 1990s. Douglas's intricate and emotive film installations are concerned with complex psychological states such as repressed collective memories, forgotten histories and social alienation. The Serpentine Gallery presentation will include three recent works.

(1995), Le Détroit
(2000), and a major
new piece, Journey
into Fear (2001),
shown as a work in
progress at the
Istanbul Biennale,
which, in its
completed version, will
have its world
premiere at the
Serpentine Gallery.
Douglas's work has
been featured in
several one-person
exhibitions, such as
the ICA's 1994
presentation and in
major international
exhibitions including
the 49th Venice
Biennale (2001); the
Whitney Biennial
(1995); the Musée
National d'Art
Moderne, Centre
Georges Pompidou
(1994); and the San
Francisco Museum of
Modern Art (1991).
