A.I.R Gallery is pleased to announce Generations III, an
invitational exhibition of over 400 small works by women
artists in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the gallery.
This event unites a spectrum of women artists nationwide,
working in a variety of styles and media. Participating artists
were invited by the A.I.R. Gallery artists.
The Generations exhibition series began in 1997 to
commemorate the 25th anniversary of A.I.R. Gallery and
continues as a biennial event. Founded in 1972, A.I.R. is the first
artist-run, not-for-profit gallery for women artists in the
country. The announcement for the gallery's first exhibition in
September of 1972 elaborates our founding principles: "A.I.R.
changes attitudes about art by women. A.I.R. offers women
artists a space to show work as innovative, transitory or
unsaleable as the artists' conceptions demands." Continuing in
that tradition, Generations III will include well-known artists as
well as lesser-known, younger, mid-career and emerging artists.
Opening Reception: Feb. 28, 6-8pm
A.I.R. is also pleased to announce that during GENERATIONS
III we will be:
conducting a silent auction for the duration of the exhibition in
which 70% of sales will go to the participating artists and 30%
to A.I.R's 30th Anniversary. Participate in the auction
and help us support women artists.
organizing a raffle in which four winners of the raffle will each
receive one piece by one of the following artists: Alice Neel,
Faith Ringgold, Ursula Von Rydingsvard, or Nancy
Spero. raffle tickets will be sold to the public at $50
per ticket.
sponsoring an multi-genre, evening event series organized by
W.E.R.I.S.E. (Women Empowered through Revolutionary
Ideas Supporting Enterprise). W.E.R.I.S.E is a multicultural
collective made up of visual artists, performing artists,
writers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs. See
