Guest curator, Nilo Casares writes of the exhibition
An exhibition that begins with a slip on the internet and
goes on, as almost everything I do.
As I am not interested in video-art at all (i only appreciate
the results from those people who work on their fantasies)
I have chosen video-art works, in most of the cases, made
by artists who give the technical means the importance of
being something else you can reach to, so handy as
consumption electronics makes it.
In the same way that there is no daily event, accident or
celebration, outside the digital register, neither the artists
resist taking advantage of the case that a economic and
immediate use electronics offers. The artworks of this
exhibition are made of these means, this exhibition is
thought to be watched in a bathroom open to the
audience.
The Bathroom Gallery was established by residents and
curators Evan Quigley and Sarah Bennett who decided
they would offer the otherwise empty space of their
bathroom to innovative international and local artists. The
Bathroom Gallery is a fully functional bathroom complete
with all the traditional amenities. Artists are invited to
work around and with the sink, tub, and toilet to produce
works that would otherwise not be exhibited in the white
cube of traditional galleries.
Admission is free. The Bathroom Gallery is now offering the
unique opportunity to bathe with the art on display, a
nominal fee of $20 will allow for a 45-minute private bubble
bath.
The Luis Seoane Foundation in a Corunha (Galiza, Spain)
has collaborated in this exhibition.
