A group exhibition of small-format paintings by nationally recognized artists (Iona Rozeal Brown, Richard Colman, Edward Del Rosario, Lori Esposito, Lori Field, Oliver Vernon, and others) whose work reflects the interplay of concept, complexity, and scale.
Irvine Contemporary is pleased to present Aspect:Ratio 1, a curated group exhibition of small-format paintings by nationally recognized artists whose work reflects the interplay of concept, complexity, and scale. Opening reception, Saturday, December 13, 6-8PM.
After two decades of experiencing paintings and other art works that seek greater and greater scale to fill seemingly ever larger volumes of art space, many artists are now responding with a counter proposition of small format and intimate works that require close, detailed, and more intimate appreciation. Aspect:Ratio 1 presents works that are small in scale but rich in detail and conceptual context. Several artists invited to participate in Aspect:Ratio 1 produced paintings specifically for the exhibition, taking up the question of how “scaling down” influences their approaches to painting and image-making.
