Business Design Centre, London

Modern and Contemporary British Art. One-hundred galleries are selected each year showing work from the last 100 years. While painting is the main focus of the Fair, it also encompasses sculpture, photography, prints, video and installation art. comunicato stampa

"British Collectors can see the cream of Modern and Contemporary British Art on their doorstep at the London Art Fair."
Meredith Etherington-Smith

One-hundred galleries are selected each year showing work from the last 100 years. While painting is the main focus of the Fair, it also encompasses sculpture, photography, prints, video and installation art. The Fair has a uniquely welcoming atmosphere and whether you're an experienced collector or first-time buyer, the Fair is the perfect place to indulge your passion for art and catch up with friends in a New Year.

In its 5th year, Art Projects brings together 27 international projects - curated solo and group exhibitions. While London Art Fair has traditionally concentrated on supporting British galleries, the record number of applications this year from all over the world has resulted in more successful entrants from outside the UK. The inclusion of these galleries enables dialogue between gallery practices in Britain and abroad and it also brings unique insight into changing societies on the other side of the world. The concentrated time span of an art fair makes short-run performance pieces especially effective. This year’s line up is particularly strong in this respect, with daily activities taking place on a number of stands in the section.

Photography continues to be a growing strand - both in the main part of the Fair with specialist galleries and also with our Photo50 section. Photo50, launched successfully at the 2007 Fair, returns for the third year with 50 photographs drawn from a range of UK and international galleries. All the works in this curated display will be for sale. Photo50 is located on Gallery Level 1.

Photo50 is organised and selected by the MFA Curating Programme at Goldsmiths, University London here the team introduces this year’s exhibition. Films often tell a story through a series of images and attempts to construct a reality. At the end of the film a disclaimer appears to explain that similarities to reality are coincidental, neither intentional nor accidental. Coincidence is the word that etymologically explains these matters. The word comes from the Latin co-incidere, which defines a situation where two entities exist or occur at the same time and in similar or identical forms. Likewise, this is how photography works: the document generated by the camera coincides with a similar situation or object that is held in our minds. The gap between these two almost identical images (one documented and one recalled from a personal archive) generates the ambiguity of the document.

An exciting programme of events will be running from Wednesday to Saturday. Partners include Apollo Magazine, the Contemporary Art Society, The Art Fund and Own Art. In addition we have a Photography Day on Wednesday 14 January.
