Una risata percorre le tele, connotando di sarcasmo il nuovo ciclo pittorico di Michael Bevilacqua.
Nella seconda personale in Italia, riecheggia un suono di metallo pesante: la ''corrosione della conformità'' è il nome del gruppo degli 80's preso in prestito per dare il titolo alla mostra.

L'occhio dell'osservatore viene risucchiato in un vortice di stratificazioni di icone ricorrenti che animano le grandi tele. Bevilacqua è un divoratore di immagini che rigurgita scomponendole come frammenti di uno specchio. La sua è una pittura energica che lo induce ad un confronto corpo a corpo con la tela. Il 42enne originario della West Coast, trasferito a New York da anni, è sedeotto dall'estetica punk come dai bevitori di assenzio e dal mondo noir.

Così ogni tela si concentra sull'elaborazione e la visitazione di un ricordo vissuto o mediatico.
La passione per la luce, applicata al tratto sicuro e ai colori acidi in ''White Boy Suicide'',
si confonde in ''Hellas'' con l'eco di una vacanza nel sole di una isola greca.
Nei nuovi ampi spazi, la galleria propone opere inedite di grande e media dimensione
su tela e su carta.

Michael Bevilacqua è nato nel 1966 a Carmel, California. Vive e lavora a New York.

A leering sarcastic mouth sign-posts the beginning of a new stylistic phase for Michael Bevilacqua.
In his second solo show in Italy, the sound of heavy metal blares out once more: ''Corrosion of Conformity” is the name of the show, borrowed from the famous 80s band. The eyes of the observer are drawn into a vortex of recurring, stratified icons that animate enormous paintings.

Bevilacqua devours, regurgitates and then recomposes images like the shattered fragments of a mirror. His energic brush strokes force the artist to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the canvas. This 42-year old artist from the West Coast—and New Yorker by adoption—is seduced by punk aesthetics, absinthe drinkers and Film Noir.

Hence, each painting focuses on the elaboration and the revisitation of a media event or a personal recollection. His passion for light, his self-assured hand and the vivid, lysergic colours in ''White Boy Suicide'', become blurred in ''Hellas'' with its echoes of a holiday in the sun on a Greek island.

In the spacious new gallery, The Flat presents unedited large and medium-sized works on canvas and paper.
