Printed Matter is pleased to announce an exhibition with the artists’ group Critical Art Ensemble. The exhibition will feature posters, books, pamphlets, and other printed matter drawn from two decades of Critical Art Ensemble's multi-media artistic practice. The opening reception is on January 17th, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Printed Matter, which is located at 195 Tenth Avenue (between 21st and 22nd Street) in New York City.

Critical Art Ensemble (CAE) is a collective of tactical media practitioners of various specializations, including computer graphics and web design, wetware, film/video, photography, text art, book art, and performance. Formed in 1987, CAE's focus has been the exploration of the intersections between art, technology, political activism, and critical theory. The collective has produced a wide variety of projects for an international audience at diverse venues ranging from the street, to the museum, to the Internet. CAE is the recipient of the 2007 Andy Warhol Foundation Wynn Kramarsky Freedom of Artistic Expression Grant honoring two decades of distinguished work, and has been invited to exhibit and perform in numerous cultural institutions—including the Whitney Museum and the New Museum in NYC; the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington, DC; the London Museum of Natural History and the ICA, London; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris; der Volksbühne, Berlin; ZKM, Karlsruhe; El Matadero, Madrid; Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; Museo de Arte Carrilo Gil, Mexico City and many more. CAE's work has been covered by numerous art journals including Artforum, Kunstforum, and The Drama Review, which dedicated a special section to CAE in 2000. The collective has written six books, and its writings have been translated into 18 languages.

All of CAE’s books will be available: Nova Text and Cronicas Brazileiras, which were self published, along with The Molecular Invasion, Flesh Machine, Electronic Civil Disobedience, and Marching Plague, all of which were published by Autonomedia. All CAE proceeds from the sale of the poster Health Care Not Warfare poster will go to Doctors without Borders/Gaza.
