Heart and Soul.
The female form--nude and otherwise--is the pictorial subject of
"Michael Halsband: Heart and Soul." Thematically, this exhibition
explores the physically beautiful and the life force of the individual woman.
Be it a Maori surfer girl strolling along the shoreline or a nude studio
model achieving a moment of perfect balance, the subjects of each of the
eight color and black-and-white photographs comprising "Michael
Halsband: Heart and Soul" are portrayed within a dynamic context that both
challenges and satisfies the classical and the vernacular in contemporary
photography.
Mr. Halsband is recognized for his double-portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat
and Andy Warhol wearing boxing gloves, as well as his portraits of rock
stars (such as, Garbage, Beck, and AC/DC) and his documentary images of the
Rolling Stones on their 1981 concert tour. Works from Mr. Halsband's
ongoing series documenting the international exploits of longboard surfing
champion Joel Tudor have been exhibited in New York and in East Hampton.
Mr. Halsband's photographs have been featured in exhibitions in New York,
Santa Monica, Dallas, Houston, Osaka, and Havana. His work is in the
collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Israel Museum,
Jerusalem.
"Michael Halsband: Heart and Soul" will open on the 14 March 2002 from
6:00 to 8:00 pm and will remain on view from the 14th of March to the 13th
