Dos-à-dos/Face-à-face brings together a series of sculptures created between 2001 and 2008 by Quebec artist Valérie Blass. Using techniques such as molding, modeling, assembling and re-working of surfaces, the artist revitalizes the language of traditional sculpture. Combining various modes of representation, she explores processes that allow her to create forms situated between abstraction and figuration. Often organized two by two, Valérie Blass’ works create in the viewer’s mind curious movements of coming and going between the forms. The strangeness that emanates from these pieces is an invitation to the viewer to lend themselves to new associations from the unexpected, and from colourful and textured shapes.
A full color, bilingual brochure on the artist’s work will be available on site.
Valérie Blass lives and works in Montreal. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts degree both from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM).
