The excitement is mounting as the artists swoop in to put their imprint on the "Bird Bath Laundromat" on Bird Road, in Coconut Grove. Artists Philippe Chamy and Carl-Edouard Denis (both natives of Haiti) painted up a storm on previously drab and dreary walls, until 2:30 a.m. last Sunday.
The excitement is mounting as the artists swoop in to put their imprint on the "Bird Bath Laundromat" on Bird Road, in Coconut Grove. Artists Philippe Chamy and Carl-Edouard Denis (both natives of Haiti) painted up a storm on previously drab and dreary walls, until 2:30 a.m. last Sunday. Also, three dryers and two columns were decoratively painted in bird motifs by Artist Sally Sidner.
In addition, 10 Grove artists have adopted the Bird Bath Laundromat and have made it their project to beautify a long time Coconut Grove Institution much to the delight of customers and new owner of the Bird Bath, Alan Loy. Work is continuous and best sighting of artists-at-work-and-play is late in the evening to early mornings. The facility is open 24 hours.
"Coconut Grove has always been an artist's haven, and we are hoping to make it a 'heaven' for everybody--even at the laudromat!" said Philippe Chamy, whose madala-mural theme is titled: "Out of the Blues". Carl-Edouard Denis added "A laudromat is a perfect place for art. It lightens the drudgery of laundry and people will probably spend more time looking at specific piece of art here than even in a museaum."
Artists participating are of different disciplines and all are professionals.
On the second picture customer Tasha Brown is seen enjoying the new look painted by artist Sally Sidner.
